Get to know The University of Northampton


The University of Northampton provides their students quality academic and non-academic experience with their excellent teaching support and modern facilities. It’s considered as one of the top 50 universities, according to the Guardian University Guide 2014. Based on Hesa Destinations of leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey 2011/12, the university has a rating of 96% in terms of student employability.

Campuses The university has two campuses, the Avenue Campus and Park Campus. They are situated near each other, with a distance of less than two miles. The Avenue Campus is considered as a major arts centre, as well as a centre for technology and architecture. They have art gallery viewings, theatre performances, and other arts related activities. The Park Campus is located near banks, supermarkets, and other establishments. Park campus offers an extensive library, sports hall and even a nightclub. General entry requirements International students are required to pass a minimum English language requirement. The requirement for an undergraduate course is an IELTS score of at least 6.0 (or equivalent), while postgraduate courses require a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent). Please note that the university recognizes all approved English language tests by the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

As required for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, students need to submit an accomplished international application form with certified copies of educational documents (such as school certificates and other qualifications), a passport copy, proof and details of their English language test results, and at least one reference.

Popular courses Their popular courses include undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Engineering, Economics, and other business courses (such as Business Computing for web design and Business Entrepreneurship). They also offer Human Bioscience undergraduate course, which provides students the knowledge on human biology. This course is great for those who are aiming to be professional research scientists.

The university is also known to offer an International Foundation Programme which is intended for students to pass the entry requirements and gain admission to the undergraduate programmes at the university. It has subject pathways in Art and Design, Business Studies, Law, and Social Sciences.

University facilities To support the students while studying and living here, they have facilities accessible to all. Aside from facilities that support their academic life such as IT rooms, studios, laboratories, and lecture theatres, they also have restaurants, shops and a gym for the students’ convenience. International students who are just starting their study in the university don’t have to worry regarding their accommodation as they are eligible to apply to stay in the university’s halls of residence. They also have university libraries which are open 7 days a week at both campuses. On campus sports facilities and a podiatry clinic are also available.

Support services for international students Aside from the standard services they usually provide to all, they give international students additional support. They know and value the challenges international students face in studying and living in a foreign place.

They have an appointed team and a social programme to help the students with adapting to the university. Students can also be picked up at the airport by a university representative and be brought to the university. The university also conducts and invites students at the International Orientation Programme a week before the course start date. Here, international students will know how to go about tasks such as opening a bank account and will get to participate in social activities where they can get together with other students. International students can also get services of personal tutors as well as a free English language support, and visa and career guidance.
